
Director of Maine Telemedicine Services, Ken Topel, BSN, MBA, joined HealthWays in 2007. His most recent position as a critical care nurse at Mercy Hospital in Portland. Prior to that, he worked for 22 years in computer programming and information systems, including 4 years as Director of Information Services for Martin’s Point Health Care and 9 years as Project Manager at Unum. In the former position, he developed an e-health system that allowed 2,000 patients to gain Web access to Personal Health Records. He published an article on this system, another article on health care electronic data interchange, and presented at telehealth and IT conferences.
Director of MTS Home Telemedicine, and CEO, HealthWays/RMCL, Carol Carew, RN, BSN, MBA, has served RMCL since 1998. Prior to becoming CEO in 2002, she was Director of Sunrise County HomeCare Services, where she led two pioneering home telehealth projects. Her experience also includes work as Director of Homecare for the International Health Specialists in Newton, Massachusetts for 5 years and then Chief Operations Officer for the Americare at Home Agency for 2 years.
Technical Telemedicine Coordinator, Joe Zdrojowy, BSEET, has been with RMCL since 2002, gaining much expertise in installation and troubleshooting of telemedicine equipment and WAN networking systems. His extensive experience includes work as a technical analyst with the National Security Agency.
Director of HealthWays Technical Services, Dale Wing, has been with RMCL since 1997 and has been the Engineer for all interactive video services. He has also developed and managed the corporate Local Area Network as well as designed and installed the Wide Area Network based on spread spectrum microwave.
Director of Research and Evaluation, Michael Edwards, Ph.D. has since 1998 led the evaluation effort for dozens of grant funded projects, including the major telemedicine projects. After completing his doctoral degree in Physiology, he had 20 years research experience in the biomedical sciences, including six years as an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Shriver Center for Mental Retardation. His publications include 26 journal articles and numerous abstracts.
